November ArtWalk

Hi Everybody,

November ArtWalk is right around the corner.
For those of you who don't know, ArtWalk has become extremely popular &
was even voted as Folio Weekly's "Best New Reason to go Downtown"
ArtWalk will be celebrating it's 3rd anniversary in November &
I'm very thankful to the venues that have so graciously allowed local artists'
to show & perform their talent & I'm so proud of our local artists' who have continued
to push forward despite of weather, lack of attendance, & other various obstacles that artists face
on a daily basis.

This ArtWalk, I'll be selling a piece called "Daydreaming." It was recently used for the promotional material for the Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board Scholarship Luncheon that's held every year to award deserving hispanic students scholarships that will help them in their pursuit of a college education. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

I hope everyone will come out to celebrate ArtWalk's 3rd Anniversary & continue to support the local artists & the various venues because in turn you too are helping to promote our growing culture in Jacksonville.

Thanks,

Yvonne C. Lozano

"ELEMENTS"-Solo exhibit by Desiree Kantrim/Beaches Fine Art Series-11/5/06

(Title of Painting: "Rhapsody in Blue")

"ELEMENTS"

An exhibition by DESIREE KANTRIM in connection with the Beaches Fine Arts Series on Sunday, November 5th at St. Paul's by the Sea Episcopal Church, 1150 Fifth Street N Jacksonville Beach .

Organist Clive Driscill Smith in concert at 3:30pm,

Opening reception follows at 5 pm.

"This series is a fusion of the abstract with aspects of reality. While I start with a totally free flowing concept somewhere along the line I have to make a connection to my world and the way I see things. Only if I can achieve the equilibrium between the metaphysical and reality do I consider my work successful"

-Desiree

Congratulations Leigh Murphy!!!

Jacksonville artist and Center member, Leigh Murphy, was chosen to be included in the 2007 edition of Who's Who in American Women by merit of her achievements in the arts. Way to go Leigh!!!

Join Plein Air Painting in and Around St. Augustine, Florida

PAPSA, Plein Air Painters of St Augustine has been painting out on locations for a couple of years. Participation with the group only suggests that you to set up and paint at the designated location. No membership, no dues, no commitment, just fit the date into your schedule and come and paint. The group has been meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursday mornings, but now is expanding to 4 outings a month. You are invited to be a part of the fun.

Come and paint on the first and third Thursdays also. These additional outings are being hosted by JWS member Lenny Gemski.

The group will focus on providing opportunities to explore new painting locations, ideas, and growing as an expressive artist. Producing a gallery quality piece is a goal that few of us reach, so let's explore how we can enjoy painting just for the sake of working with the media and celebrating the outcome.

We will meet in a different location each time. A schedule will be distributed by email. Meeting time is 9am, but subject to change if necessary. Inclement weather is the only reason that we would not meet. We will encourage all interested artists to join us using any medium and with any level of experience. At about 11:30 we will meet in a comfortable spot to share our work for the day. This is a great way to meet other artists and get to know their work from their perspective. We will focus on talking about our own work for a couple of minutes. If discussion is desired by the artist, then that is possible too. No one needs to feel that they must share their work, it is possible to just listen to others.

Come paint with us!

Email Lenny Gemski if you would like more information and to be on the email list. lgemski@earthlink.net

Solo Exhibit: Desiree Kantrim at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum-Nov 1, 2006

"Journeys", -Solo show by Desiree Kantrim at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum, 101 West 1st Street Jacksonville, Fl .

The diversity of three continents inspired this collection. After many years of living in Canada and Costa Rica Desiree finally settled in Florida. Her paintings are as diverse as her background. Since coming here she has been particulary intrigued by the Spanish Moss that is so abundant in our trees. She developed a series of paintings incorporating the real thing under many layers of paint and metallic glazes with stunning results.

Come and meet the artist at the Opening Reception on November 1, 2006 from 5-9pm.

Free admission- there will be refreshments
