First Art Center Paint Out!

It was a good turnout. Unfortunately, I was too busy talking or paintings to remember to take pictures when actual non-artists came into the space but they did come and so did a few Center Artists!. Thank you, Leigh Murphy, Annelies Dykgraaf, Elaine Bedell, and Desiree Kantrim and Rita Blum.

We all made a difference in the community by opening our doors and letting those on the Downtown Living Tour know what a treasure they have in this Art Center. Thanks again, for coming out! -Princess

Saturday Paint Out!!!-Nov 18 @ The Carling Building

ATTENTION: CENTER ARTISTS

Center member artists are needed to man the Art Center gallery and Studio spaces at the Carling Building during the Downtown Living Tour, this Saturday (11/18) between 10-4 pm. This is voluntary.

We would like artists to be available to answer questions about their art during the tour. It would be great for both artists and tour partipants if some artists were painting or drawing in the gallery and/or outside our space right on Adams street. We can have some artists painting or drawing upstairs in the hall and in the studio as well. So bring easels, brushes, buckets and paint, pencils, etc..whatever you work with.

*If working in front of an audience is not your thing, bring reproductions, greeting cards, anything you like that markets you as an artist. The goal is to make personal contact with the audience.

If you have any questions, call Princess at 904 535-6949. You don't have to stay the whole time but come for a while and have some fun! Click on the Title above or this link to learn more about the Downtown Living Tour.

Yes, this is before our 4:30 pm general meeeting at the Carling. So don't forget the meeting!

Let's have fun with this guys and PAINT OUR HEARTS OUT!!!! Who knows we might just develop some patrons and friends...

Sunday (11/19/2006) WORK OUT on the Carling FLOORS!

Attention Center Artists:

We need people to help patch up and paint the floors Sunday downstairs and upstairs. The downstairs gallery floor needs repainting and the upstairs studio and gallery/workshop space needs painting for the first time.

This is preparation for the Dec 1st show. We want the whole facility to look Nice! So if you can help it would be GREAT!!!!!:)

Remember we may sweat when necessary but we sure know how to party!!

Kenny will bring the paint and rollers. So just bring your jokes and stamina...maybe some donuts!! For more information call Princess, 904 535-6949 or Kenny, 904 564-3738.

Thanks

Princess

Jacksonville Art Scene on the First Coast News!-11/9/06

"Vacant Space Downtown Is Up With Color"

Check out the entire article and video on the First Coast News website!

First Coast News Story: Vacant Space Downtown Is Up With Color

The article is about the relationships that are developing to put art in vacant buildings downtown in order to bring life to the downtown culture. We all seem to agree that ART IS THE KEY!

Be sure to check out the video and comment on this post by clicking on the "Comments" icon below.

The video is pretty good! There's some nice footage of Leigh Murphy painting in her studio at the Carling Building and it ends with a great shot on one of Lisa Cederberg’s paintings.

Some of the things said by Jacksonville Center visual artist, Princess Rashid:

“Downtown will only be as great as the people in it and if we don’t build this thing here, we are actually hurting the vision of the city,” says Princess Rashid.

“We’re in Jacksonville and Jacksonville’s our city and that’s where we have to make our name,” says Rashid.

If you would like more information about this growing art scene, contact Downtown Vision at (904)-634-0303. To find out about gallery space through The Art Center: An Artist Cooperative, contact Princess Rashid at (904)-745-0956.
