Drawing Workshop: "Where It All Starts"
February 13, 2010
10a.m. to 3p.m.
Instructor: Richard Jones
Location: The Art Center at 111 E. Bay St., downtown Jacksonville
Drawing is a basic ability nearly every artist needs at some point in their career. So many of the greatest works of art started with a drawing or rough sketch. A large part of the success of a piece of art depends on the drawing. Drawing is the foundation of the artwork, and if the initial drawing is not executed well, the piece will look unfinished and amateurish.
That said, the workshop will use simplified approaches to solve different drawing problems. The workshop will include an introduction to basic drawing procedures, which will include drawing a simple still life setup, followed by critiques. The class will progress through the day to using more organic and complicated shapes. This workshop focuses on drawing the basic form of the object first and then making refinements on that basic shape.
Students will be working with pencil and paper (any size from 12x18 to 18x24 is recommended).
