2010 JAZZ FEST POSTER ARTIST

The official 2010 Jacksonville Jazz Festival poster was created by Art Center artist/president Marsha Hatcher who painted her interpretation of how Jacksonville comes alive during the annual jazz festival. Aptly titled, "River City Rumble," her artwork depicts the way the city exudes energy and excitement of talented musicians entertaining the masses. AND THE WINNER IS...

All three photographs entered by Art Center member Mary Atwood in the Jacksonville Public Library’s annual Chiaroscuro Photo Contest were awarded prizes. One photograph placed first and two placed second in their respective categories.

MICHAEL CENCI TAKES 2ND PLACE

Michael Cenci of Orange Park, Florida, has won Second Place for February in the prestigious photography contest sponsored by BetterPhoto.com, the site's founder, Jim Miotke, announced Sunday.

More than 17100 entries were submitted to the online photography contest, which attracted contestants from around the world and featured 10 separate categories.

Cenci's stunning image, "Milkweed seeds", garnered top honors after being submitted in the Flowers category.

The contest is conducted each month. Categories include Nature and Landscapes, Animals, People, Elements of Design, Digital Darkroom, Travel and Place, Flowers, Details and Macro, Catch-All, and Monthly Theme. Judging is performed by a panel of professional photographers.

Mary Atwood won first prize in the annual photography contest at the Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens in Stuart, Florida. Her winning photo was the unanimous choice of the judges. In addition to a blue ribbon, she was awarded a $100 gift certificate for the botanical garden’s monthly plant sale which she donated to Tropical Ranch's butterfly garden project at the local hospice in Stuart.

Michael Cenci's winning photo

Michael Cenci recently found out he was one of the 12 winners of The St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoological Gardens photo contest. It's the 16th annual contest. There were more than 600 entries from all over the United States, parts of Canada, and the U. K. The winning photos will be on display at the Alligator Farm and in the 2010 calendar, which can be bought at their gift shop and on their website. He also won $200. The winning photo was his - Tri-colored heron chicks.

Kibee: School Time 16X20" Mixed media. "This piece was one of three created as a triptic. I used pieces of my own seriagraph images and small examples of my clay work created from molds that I also made. Children are my subject matter. These depicted children are in a learning environment. Children are our future and our children need the village to be in place to insure the quality of their development".
